Mechanical Properties and Joinability of AlSi9 Alloy Manufactured by Twin‐Roll Casting

AlSi casting alloys combine excellent castability with high strength. Hence, this group of is often used in the automotive sector. The challenge for application brittle character these which leads to cracks during joint formation when mechanical joining technologies are used. A rise ductility can be achieved by a considerable increase solidification rate results grain refinement. High rates realized twin–roll (TRC) water-cooled rolls. Therefore, hypoeutectic EN AC–AlSi9 (for European Norm - aluminum cast product) manufactured TRC process and analyzed. Subsequently, investigations performed on castings as-cast heat-treated condition using self-piercing riveting considering load-bearing capacity. Due fine microstructure, crack initiation avoided joining, while maintaining parameters, especially specimens heat treatment conditions. Furthermore, due extremely capacity significantly increased terms maximum force energy absorbed.
